Draughtproofing workshop success, meeting report, new blog

8 Transition Walthamstow members plus a number of curious onlookers crowded into a back room at The Mill last Saturday for workshop on reducing energy loss from homes. HEET experts Tom & Adam demonstrated how to fit draughtproofing for windows and doors, and reflective panels behind radiators, before equipping the participants with materials so they could get some hands-on practice.

After an hour of hammering The Mill sported a number of newly draughtproofed windows and doors. Pictures from the workshop are here. There is already a waiting list for a second workshop planned soon for Transition Walthamstow members, where we hope to further reduce the centre’s heating bills.

A summary of last week’s meeting and brief reports from each of the project teams is here.

Finally, a reminder we have a new blog page, already featuring 2 posts from Tom Bloor.

Wellbeing, growing, draughtbusting, £ Walthamstow, …

With a growing list of exciting projects to develop, we’ll be using open space technology at our next get together on Friday 27th January. We’ll start by snacking on organic popcorn whilst watching some film shorts at 6.40pm (including one by Sustain about OrganicLea & Hornbeam), and the meeting proper commences at 7pm.

Our meetings are open to anyone who has an interest in Transition and finding great local solutions to address climate change, resource depletion & global economic instability.

More details here.

We meet at 7pm on the 2nd Monday and 4th Friday of each month at the Hornbeam Centre, so if you can’t make this one, put our next 2 meetings in your diary: 13th & 24th February.

2012 meeting dates, draughtbusting workshop, new blog page

The next meeting is at Mon 16th Jan (see agenda here), and there’s a second one this month on Fri 27th Jan; both start at 7pm and are at the Hornbeam Centre.
From February onwards we’ll meet on the 2nd Monday and 4th Friday.

Outputs from our last meeting on 16th Dec where we started to develop two of our projects (awareness raising & draughtbusting) are on the website here.

We are planning a draught busting workshop (to learn how to draughtproof Walthamtow’s homes) and are seeking a house to be draughtproofed. If you know of a draughty property which needs some work around the windows and doors, would benefit from the installation of reflective panels between radiator & wall (and ideally has a loft) get in touch.

Tom Bloor has inaugrated our new blog page with a thoughtful piece on the role music can play in strengthening our local community.
